Now, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha launched the next generation optical fibre-based technology that will let BSNL provide broadband connection with download speed of up to 1,000 Mbps. Let me tell you, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd right now offers broadband connection which has the maximum download speed of 100Mbps on its fibre-to-the home network. Telecom minister Manoj Singha while inaugurating the new technology said “BSNL has successfully implemented a major project of NG-OTN technology in 44 cities covering state capitals and major cities. Under this project, total 100 major cities including state capitals shall be covered in phased manner during current financial year” Manoj Sinha said the NG-OTN (Next generation optical transport network) would be implemented in three phased with a total investment of Rs 330 crore. BSNL chairman and Managing director Anupam Shrivastava said “This project aimed to enhance existing 10G capacity to 100G capacity of Optical Fibre infrastructure of BSNL. This means now in back-end we will have 10 times more capacity and will be launching new plans with 10 times more speed. This enhanced capacity will help retail customer base of BSNL in landline, FTTH and mobile services,” Well, BSNL right now offers the top speed of 24Mbps to those who have fixed line broadband connection and 100mbps speed on FTTH network. Anil Kumar Jain, BSNL CGM said “With this upgradation we will be able to provide connection with speed of up to 1 gigabit per second on FTTH networks in all state capitals and other top cities” The new NG-OTN technology also has a characteristic that will benefit BSNL in a quick recovery of telephone services if any components in the system get damaged due to any natural disaster.
